Aisidul, 16 and father Mahabu, 37

“Aisidul, my son, has been working at the yard for the last two years and I have been working at the shipbreaking yard for the past 10 years. We have asked Aisidul to work because the family desperately needs the money. We are migrant workers from Rangpur and come work here during the monsoon season, when crops cannot be grown. The work here is extremely dangerous and we are always worried that one of us will get hurt or even die. Our salaries are so low that we are barely able to save money to send back to the family. We don’t spend our pay on anything other than our bare essentials and we still only manage to send less than 10 euros a month to our family.”
