Muhammed Tipu Mulla, 28 years old

“I came to Chittagong with one of my uncles because my family did not have enough money to pay for my studies.I joined the shipbreaking yard in 1994 as a fitter, which consists in taking parts and scrap items from the ships and breaking asbestos and glass.”

“I will never forget the first time I saw a man dying in front of me on the shipbreaking yard. The work environment here is so dangerous. The owners don’t give us any protective equipment, not even when they send us to break asbestos, and I am aware that asbestos is very dangerous for my health.”
