For several years now, the NGO Shipbreaking Platform has been compiling lists of end-of-life ships sent for breaking every year. In 2012, the Platform compiled for the first time, next to the annual European companies sending end-of-life ships to beaching yards in South Asia, a complete list of all ships sent for breaking all over the world. Here is the complete list of all ships for 2013. A separate list for European ships (including Norwegian- and Swiss-owned, thus EFTA) is available in our library. Of the 1213 large ocean-going vessels that were scrapped in 2013, 645 were sold to substandard beaching facilities in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Whereas the number of dismantled ships remained nearly as high as in 2012, the number of beached ships dropped from 850 to 645 in 2013, representing a reduction of 24% from the previous year.
