18 July 2014 - International Shipbreaking of Brownsville in Texas will receive US$ 3 million to recycle the vessel, a sum which reflects the net proceeds expected from the sale of the scrap metal. Although the Navy continues to own the carrier during the recycling process, International Shipbreaking takes ownership of the scrap metal as the vessel is being dismantled.

The Navy recently awarded similar contracts to two other companies based in Brownsville: All Star Metals won a contract last October to dismantle the USS Forrestal; and ESCO Marine was selected in May to recycle the USS Saratoga.
