19 January 2014 - Three workers sustained burn injuries as a fire broke out at a scrap ship in a ship-breaking yard of Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong this morning.

The fire originated around 9:30am when the workers were cutting a pipe with a machine inside the scrap ship at Kabir Steel Ship-breaking Yard at Baro Aulia, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting yard supervisor Md Imran Uddin.

The injured workers — Tapan Janadas, 30, Mohammad Riyad, 20, and Mohammad Lalu, 19, — were rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital around 10:40am, said Abul Bashar, a nayek of CMCH’s police camp.

Of them, condition of Janadas and Lalu, who suffered 16 and 38 percent burn injuries respectively, is said to be critical.

Janadas and Riyad hailed from Sitakunda and Satkania upazilas of Chittagong while Lalu, 19, from Gabtoli upazila in Bogra.
