17 July 2012 - A worker was killed when a metal plate fell on him at a ship-breaking yard at Bhatiari of Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong early Tuesday.
The incident took place at SRS Ship Breaking Yard at Jora Amtol in the upazila, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Sitakunda Police Station, said the plate fell on Md Khurshid Alam, 20, around 4:00am, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared him dead, said Habilder Asim, on-duty officer of CMCH police camp.
SRS Ship Breaking Yard is owned by Abdullah Al Mamun, son of local lawmaker Abdul Kashem Master.
Contacted, Abdullah Al Mamun, owner of the ship breaking yard and also son of local lawmaker Abdul Kashem Master, told The Daily Star that he new nothing about the incident.
