The Times of India – Fire at godown in Alang kills one

9 December 2011 - RAJKOT: A labourer was killed in a fire at Asia’s largest ship breaking yard Alang on Friday morning. According to Alang police, the fire engulfed a godown at plot no 67 at around 3 am.

Fire brigade officials said it took nearly five hours to douse the fire. Deceased Bajrangi Jha (35) was among some labourers sleeping in the godown. “The others smelt the smoke and ran out, but Jha was late and got trapped,” police officer S V Acharya investigating the fire said. Samples are being taken by a forensic team. As of now, a case of accident has been filed.
